Massage Therapy Books Every Practitioner Should
Own
Once you have graduated from one of the many schools for massage therapy out there, there’s a good chance you’ll
either be employed by a health club or spa, or start your own massage therapy practice. However, aside from your
class notes and textbooks, you’re not likely to have too much material to refer to during the course of your
practice.
If you want to be a great massage therapist, it’s a good idea to invest in a few massage therapy books, and here
are a few of the best types you can own:
A Good Book on Anatomy
It may not be strictly a massage therapy book, but a guide to human anatomy is an invaluable addition to any
massage therapists personal library. It can help you to identify the exact position of the muscle groups you want
to target, and can even help you to identify potential problems, that you might want to refer your clients to their
doctor for.
A Trigger Point Reference Guide
As a massage therapist, you are probably aware that there are various trigger points on the body. Acupuncturists
and those who practice acupressure and reflexology all use these points to alter pain responses and treat injury
and disease, and you, as a massage therapist can use them in similar ways. A trigger point reference guide is
therefore another invaluable addition to your massage therapy books collection.
A Guide to Essential Oils
For millennia, humans have been using herbs, flowers and other plants, or the oils that they produce at least, to
treat a host of ailments. By combining a knowledge of these oils with the healing art of massage, a good massage
therapist can enhance the experience for their clients. So add a few books on essential oils and their uses to your
collection of massage therapy books, and enhance your client’s experience.
A Detailed Massage Therapy Guide
Even if you are a fully qualified and experienced massage therapist, it never hurts to have a reference guide to
help you treat specific problems, or to refer to when you need to. There are several guides to massage therapy out
there that are incredibly detailed, with illustrations and photographs, that will allow you to master even very
advanced techniques, and offer your client’s a range of other services and options. Massage therapy books like this
are an invaluable tool for any good massage therapist, and well worth investing in.
Other Books on Alternative Healing
As you are probably well aware, there are a range of other alternative healing practices out there that are
supplementary and complimentary to massage. You need not attend a course necessarily to incorporate some of the
ideas in these books into your practice. Look into reiki, Indian head massage, aromatherapy and even light therapy.
In fact, any of these types of books, added to your massage therapy books collection, will enhance your skill as a
masseuse, and allow you to provide a better service to your clients.
