Make Extra Money Hosting Your Own Massage Therapy Class

If you are a registered and trained massage therapist, you may be wondering whether there is any way, other than offering massage therapy itself, that you can make money from your skills. The good news is that there are several, and hosting your own massage therapy classes is one of these ways. Consider offering one or more of the following types of classes:

• A general or beginners massage class, which teaches people how to perform basic massage techniques on themselves, or on others.

• A moms and babies massage class, where you instruct new moms, or moms to be, how to massage their infants.

• A sensual massage class, teaching couples or single people how to provide each other with massages.

• Sports massage classes, where you teach amateur sports people how to prevent and treat muscle pain through massage.

Of course, whatever type of class you host, you will need to make it clear to your students that the classes are for home use only, and that they are not in any way accredited. You will also have to exercise caution to teach them only basic techniques, which cannot be harmful in any way.

Once you have ensured that that is the case, there are other ways you as a massage therapist, can make extra money from hosting massage therapy classes. These include:
• Creating and selling a guide to massage therapy for the layman, either in printed or electronic format.

• Decanting and bottling massage oils and lotions for sale in kit form to your students.

• Sourcing and selling a range of massage therapy supplies, such as pillows, face rests and massagers.

• If you’re very creative, you could even combine all of these, by putting together a beginner’s massage kit, and offering it to your students.

All of these additional services will help to make hosting your own massage therapy classes a profitable sideline business for any massage therapist. Hosted in the evenings, or on Saturday mornings, you’ll also be sure that busy professionals and moms can attend, and since you should be able to run the courses from your home or office, you shouldn’t have too much more outlay.

Another great idea is to keep a list of massage therapy schools in your area on hand, so that any of your students who want to pursue further studies, or even a career in massage therapy themselves, once you have taught them the basics, can do so themselves.

Since you should be able to handle classes of five to ten people at a time, you should also be able to make more money from teaching basic massage than you would offering massages to clients, so it’s a great way to boost your income, while still doing something you love.

So, as you can see, there are other ways to make money as a qualified massage therapist, and if you like working with people, offering beginners massage therapy classes is a great idea!
