Giving you comfort
It is human nature to feel pain on different regions of the body. Pain, although very much discomforting can be
your best friend as it tells you what's going awry in your tissues, organs as well as your bones. Since the most
common part of the body which we experience pain is in the muscles and in the lower back, experts have often
recommended the neuromuscular massage therapy. The neuromuscular massage therapy includes varying levels of
concentrated pressures on different regions of the body where the patient feels muscle spasms or strains. This
therapy involves the use of the knuckles, the fingers and the elbow as well. The application of the pressure must
not change within nine to thirty seconds.
Before anything else, let us take a simple summary of how the body responds to pain and other variations in the
human anatomy. Most often the pain is made possible by the ischemia or the lack of blood flow to the area. This can
be caused by muscle spasm brought about by strains, fractures, or constant use of the muscle that it begins to
deprive itself of essential blood supply. Due to this process, there are distinct phases that happen in the body or
the muscle locally affected. Due to the ischemia or the decreased blood supply, the muscles receive lesser amounts
of oxygen than the normal physiology it should receive. Furthermore, it then receives less oxygen producing lactic
acid in the area which will give the sore feeling and the painful touch which is a by product of inflammation.
Due to the benefit given by the neuromuscular massage therapy, flows of lactic acid begins to be exuded from the
area of pain and the pain then becomes lesser until it totally vanishes from the system. it will then receive
enough amounts of oxygen and blood supply. Since there are pressures applied in the muscles, the whole act of this
therapy may become painful in the beginning. But as the pressure goes on, the muscle spasm will slowly fade away.
Considering the discomfort, it is best to communicate openly with the therapist with regards to the pressure being
applied. This way, the therapist will be able to assess very well your pain tolerance and it will help him/her
adjust the necessary pressures to be applied.
After the neuromuscular massage therapy, the soreness will begin to feel better. You should expect that the
soreness will eventually fade within 24 to 48 hours. The pain will also disappear and will remain lessened within 4
to 14 days after the treatment.
There are actually many reasons why certain people feel pain in the lower back and other portions of the
neuromuscular build up. These are the incorrect posture, improper lifting techniques and many other habits that we
often neglect to discard. It is important to follow certain techniques when lifting or moving object. This way, the
effects of the neuromuscular massage therapy will be complimented in preventing pain and alleviating pain which may
cause further discomfort and alterations in our activities of daily living.
